ABOUT ME

I'm Michelle Thomas, your seventh and eighth grade science teacher.  I graduated from Pensacola Junior College with an Associates Arts Degree in Business and graduated University of West Florida with my teacher degree in Elementary Education/Grades K-6, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/Endorsement, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum Grade/Grades 5-9, Preschool Education/Birth-Age 4, Reading/Endorsement and Exceptional Student Education/Grades K-12. 

 

I have lived in our local area and attended school at Byrneville Elementary, Carver Middle and Century High School, Pensacola Junior College and University of West Florida.  I have one son, Cody and one cocker spaniel, Chloe.  I love to fish, hunt and enjoying the outdoors.  I also enjoy fishing with the Pride of the South Tournament on the Tensaw Delta division.

WELCOME BACK INFO

Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year! I am excited for each of you and will be here to encourage and motivate a successful and fun-filled year of learning science. When you arrive on campus Monday, Aug 13 and enter the building, you will be directed to the gym for our Eagles Nest gathering, meet and greet and schedule/teacher assignments. Please sit in your designated grade level section for 8th/7th/6th grade. Remember.....we are silent in ALL covered area hallways while in transition. Let's get to SOARING EAGLES, as we venture into this learning year

Homework/Grading/Late-Work Policy

Grades will be entered weekly.  Each assignment will have a grade in the grade book, if you see the letter "M", this stands for missing and means I have not received this assignment.  This does count against the overall grade average, therefore I encourage you to make up this assignment promptly.  A grade of "0" represents the earned grade of zero on that assignment. 

 

If you are absent, you are responsible for completing your make-up work (one day for make-up for each day absent).  Lesson plans are kept active on the class portal for two weeks and should be considered for all extended absences. If you are absent for a test, all efforts to make up test promptly within the number of days missed, is encouraged.

 

Papers with no name on them will earn a grade of "0" regardless of reason; no name - no grade!

 

Late work turned in after the due date, will lose 20 points per day off the overall assignment grade.

  1. TITLE/SUBTITLES = Circle and ??? (place 3 question marks) next to the titles/subtitles on each page and each section. (This is the overall goal or main concept that you want to be able to answer when you leave off this page)

  1. SUBTITLE ANSWERS = find the extended answer response sentences in content of paragraph, highlight these sentences & draw an arrow ----------> from the subtitle to the extended answer response (This will connect the question to answer)

  1. VOCAB TERM = underline & circle the textbook highlighted vocab term and then you are to highlight the definition sentence or sentences in the content section.

  1. UNKNOWN WORDS= place a quotation mark around the “unknown word” , then place a wavy line under the unknown term and then highlight the meaning of the unknown word and place a wavy line under the meaning of the unknown word in the content (If you do not see the unknown word in the packet you must LOOK IT UP in other sources or internet.)

  1. EVIDENCE/SUPPORTING POINTS = place a square/box block around the describing points, facts or evidence for each content section that helps support/explain the section.
